Thoughts on London
The members of javelin blog wish to express our profound sadness at yesterday’s events in London. The killing of innocent civilians is never an acceptable or moral way to either make a point or accomplish a goal. Violent measures like this will just breed more violence and pain. Vicious incidents like this help to remind us all that winning the “War on Terror” and keeping our nation and world safe from these sort of dreadful attacks should be a priority. We need to do a better job in the mid east in every way. We need an effective military strategy for Iraq and Afghanistan that involves rebuilding these nations without being perceived as an occupying power. Diplomatically, culturally, and economically we should be building relationships built on a mutual interest and peace and a brighter future for everyone. A very good case can be made that this attack happened because of England’s relationship with the United States, and the actions of these two nations in Iraq. There probably is some degree of truth to this, but liberals should not use this as either an excuse to cut and run when the job is tough nor should this be used as a way of excusing the guilty from responsibility. Fairly often it is easy to get caught up in the politics of these things and wanting to blame disliked leaders for why something happens, but we all do need to remember that people who blow up women and children on busses and trains are bad people.
